MYANMAR (BURMA) HUMANITARIAN EAST-ASIAN MEDICAL TRIP  2013

In January 2013, I provided Humanitarian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine to the Women, Men, Children, Monks and Nuns in Sagaing Hills, Myanmar at the Wachet Jivitadana Sangha Hospital.  This remote area is located on the calming and tranquil Ayeyawaddy River and is the spiritual heart of Myanmar.  The many Pagodas and Monasteries crowd the hills facing the river, providing the teachings of ancient Buddhist wisdom that this area is known for.

The village lay people and cheerful hospital staff were kind, thoughtful and supportive to our Acupuncture Medical Team.  Dr. Soma Glick, Lac, was our lead Acupuncturist who brought a team of experienced and wonderful Acupuncturists to provide medical care to the community.  We saw 600 patients in two weeks.  Everyone we attended to was so happy that we were making them feel special and assisting them with their wellness and good health.

We also were mentors to the Acupuncturists working at the Wachet Hospital, teaching them our protocols, and providing them with new treatment plans.  These Acupuncturists were professional, conscientious, and caring Practitioners.  We learned so much from them.  They were compassionate, giving and warmed our hearts and souls.

I was humbled by a couple who travelled from the Myanmar/China border hoping to get Fertility Acupuncture. Their travels took them three days to arrive.  The sister of this couple lived in the town and told them about our Acupuncture treatments. This couple were assigned to me.  They stood in-line for one hour daily until it was their appointment time. I treated them with my interpreter, Acupuncturist, Aye Aye who was also pregnant at that time.  Herbs and aupuncture were administered, nutrition and general health and reproductive wellness were discussed.  Three months later they were pregnant.  Even though I saw them for 2 weeks, they continued their appointments with Aye Aye.  I continue to stay in contact with them.

2022 update

I have stayed in touch with my Colleagues in Myanmar since 2013.  The past 2 years has been very hard for them due to the Political unrest.  I have received numerous pictures and comments from them which documents what they see and encounter.
